Mission Statement
Institutionalization of policy formulation based on high quality research produced by the well-focused consecutive thought process is fundamental to sustainable development.
PIARD is committed to realize its vision by turning scientific knowledge into practice through high quality research to formulate sustainable development strategy for decision makers taking into account the complex dynamic interconnectedness between economic, cultural, social, and environmental factors using system dynamics thinking and available modern analytical and computational tools.
- Partnership: Establishing and developing research relationships, both within the University and with external public policy makers, researchers, and not-for-profit agencies locally, nationally, and internationally; and
- Research Excellence: Designing and providing quality research by adhering to the highest ethical standards and professional best practices.

Standards and Ethics
At PIARD, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. This focus on standards and ethics is woven into every dimension of our work. We only provide research services that we are competent to execute at the level of rigor and excellence our clients and collaborators expect and deserve. We develop research designs that are appropriate for the project—fit for purpose—and adhere to the best practices in the associated field of science. We work with our partners to ask meaningful questions and we restrict our analytic conclusions to those clearly supported by the data.
Our commitment to these principles goes beyond the minimal requirements. All staff members (including student research assistants and interviewers) receive training in research ethics, research participant protections, and confidentiality.
Employment
Student Research Assistants
Students are warmly welcome to apply to be employed in the PIARD Data Analysis Lab. To qualify, undergraduates must be enrolled, have completed some coursework in basic social statistics and methods, have high grade points and be recommended by advisors or professors. Graduate students may qualify by being enrolled in a PUC master’s or doctorate program, have superior preparation by coursework and experience, and be recommended by advisors or professors. All applicants must show evidence of capability to master professional procedures of scientific interviewing and have good communication skills. Studies conducted by PIARD cover many of the most exciting and relevant topics of contemporary life including culture, public health, education, environment and natural resources, and technology.
